GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 6, Southern 3
BATON ROUGE, La. --Senior Breanna Reyna was mowing people down on Sunday, punching out 10 Southern hitters over seven innings of work to help propel the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Jaguars 6-3.
In addition to her 10 strikeouts, Reyna (5-4) went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits and walking three for Prairie View A&M (12-13, 7-0 SWAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from senior Audry Fleming, scoring senior Audrey Garcia from third base.
The Jaguars failed to push any runs across before the Panthers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice on junior Aerin Talley's two-run homer, which brought the Panther's lead to 3-0.
Southern narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 3-2 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 5-2 in the fifth inning. The Panthers scored twice, with one run coming across on junior Hannah Garza's single.
The Jaguars gained ground, closing the gap to 5-3 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the seventh. The Panthers drove home a run on senior Biviana Figueroa's one-out solo homer off K. Williams bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of Prairie View A&M. The score remained 6-3 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers held on for the win.
