PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Prairie View A&M got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Panthers put seven runs on the board and beat the Texas Southern Tigers 7-6 Friday.
Junior Cailin Massey (5-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (14-14, 9-0). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on 10 hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of senior Biviana Figueroa and a two-run double from senior Audrey Garcia.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Panthers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Prairie View A&M pushed across a run on junior Tamera McKnight's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the Panthers.
Texas Southern narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 6-2 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the third inning. Texas Southern put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Prairie View A&M still held on for the 7-6 win.
