HOUSTON, Texas --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 83-70 to the Texas Southern Tigers on the road Saturday.
The Panthers (11-17, 7-11) had two players score in double figures, led by Ryann Payne, who had 25 points. Amauri Williams tacked on 10 points and Jada Roberson added nine points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
Adreanna Waddle pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Prairie View A&M, grabbing 15 boards and turning them into 19 second-chance points.
Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Texas Southern shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Waddle led the way individually for the Panthers with two rejections.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 27-19 at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 48-35 halftime deficit.
Following halftime, Prairie View A&M kept the Tigers from growing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Payne, to trim its deficit to 58-51 with 2:05 to go in the third. Texas Southern countered and stretched its lead to 65-54 heading into the fourth. Prairie View A&M played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 19 points in the paint.
Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 83-70.
