GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 11, Alcorn State 7
, Miss. Lorman, --It was a tough day for Alcorn State pitchers, as the Prairie View A&M Panthers tallied 11 runs en route to an 11-7 win over the Lady Braves on Saturday.
Junior Cailin Massey (1-0) got the win for Prairie View A&M (23-17, ). The right-hander went three innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Junior Hailey Elizarrarnas also pitched well, going four innings, surrendering two runs, one earned, on four hits, walking one, and striking out four.
Offensively, the Panthers were paced by senior Biviana. Figueroa, went 1-for-3 on the day with a double, two walks, and three RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Junior Aerin Talley also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up nine runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Figueroa and a two-run double from freshman I. Rodriguez.
The Panthers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Lady Braves cut it to 9-4. Prairie View A&M picked up a run on Talley's two-out solo home run off of junior A. Carter, which brought the score to 10-4 in favor of the Panthers.
Alcorn State narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 10-7 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 11-7 in the seventh inning. The Panthers scored a run on junior Tamara McKnight's leadoff home run off Carter. The score remained 11-7 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.
