GULFPORT, Miss. --Despite picking up seven hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Alabama State, Prairie View A&M was unable to push across more runs, as the Panthers lost to the Hornets 3-2 Thursday.
Senior Jerrica Rojas (6-4) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (29-19) and took the loss. Junior Cailin Massey was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing four scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
At the plate, the Panthers were led by senior Biviana Figueroa, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Freshman Isabella Rodriguez also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Figueroa. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
