HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 32-point performance from the bench, but fell 68-59 to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on the road Monday inside the Event Center in Huntsville, Ala.Â
Despite a strong performance, the Panthers couldn't overcome the halftime deficit of 31-28, which ultimately widened by the game's conclusion.
Adreanna Waddle led the scoring for the Panthers with 13 points, alongside contributing seven rebounds. Other notable performances included CJ Wilson with five points and five rebounds, and both Crystal Schultz and Nyam Thornton contributing eight points each. The team effort was evident, but the Bulldogs' offense proved too much in this encounter.  Nia Jordan helped out with six points and four assists off the bench
Prairie View A&M grabbed 36 rebounds in Monday's game compared to Alabama A&M's 35, led by Waddle's seven boards. The Panthers also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 12 rebounds into 20 second chance points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Monday's game, forcing 13 Alabama A&M turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 11 points on the offensive end of the floor. Ash'a Thompson led the way individually for the Panthers with one steal.
As the Panthers look to bounce back from this defeat, they are set to face Texas Southern next on February 1, 2025, at the HP&E Arena in Houston, Texas. Fans and supporters remain hopeful for a strong performance in the upcoming game, seeking a turnaround in the team's fortunes.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M started off strong, putting together a 16-15 lead heading into the second quarter. Prairie View A&M did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 16 points close to the basket.
The Panthers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 31-28.
Prairie View A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Panthers faced a 49-43 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 15 points in the paint.
Alabama A&M kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 64-50 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 64-56 with 30 seconds to go in the contest. Alabama A&M responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 68-59. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 11 of its 16 total points.
