HUNTSVILLE, TX --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 15-point performance from the bench, but fell 77-49 to the Sam Houston Bearkats on the road Monday.
The Lady Panthers (1-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Cj Wilson, who had 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Alana Shields tacked on 10 points and Taiya Kikunga added five points and six rebounds.
Led by Kikunga's four offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
The Prairie View A&M defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 26 Sam Houston turnovers while committing 24. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Wilson's four steals led the way individually for the Lady Panthers.

Sam Houston kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 75-39 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Shields' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 75-47 with 51 seconds to go in the contest. The Lady Panthers were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 77-49. Prairie View A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 15 points in the paint.
