PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (2-0) is back on the road this weekend, heading to Wichita, Kansas, to face the Wichita State Shockers (1-0) on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 6:00 p.m. CDT inside Charles Koch Arena.

Matchup Overview
The Panthers enter Saturday's contest with momentum after opening the season with two convincing wins, including a dominant 95-48 victory over the College of Biblical Studies in their season opener. Prairie View A&M is led by head coach Byron Smith, now in his 11th season at the helm. Smith has built the program into a consistent contender in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), capturing two SWAC regular-season titles (2019, 2020) and the 2019 SWAC Tournament Championship.

Wichita State (1-0) looks to start its season 2-0 after defeating UNC Asheville, 75-58, earlier in the week. The Shockers are 4-0 all-time against the Panthers, with each matchup taking place in Wichita. Saturday's contest is part of Wichita State's Hometown Heroes Weekend and Shocksgiving Canned Food Drive, an initiative supporting the local community.

Scouting the Panthers
Prairie View A&M's offense has been firing early this season, fueled by veteran guard Tai'Reon Joseph, who dropped 26 points in the opener while hitting five three-pointers. Marcel Bryant added 17 points, five rebounds, and three steals, giving the Panthers a balanced inside-out attack.

The Panthers showcased efficiency on both ends of the court—shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 73.3 percent from the free-throw line, while holding their opponent to 18.5 percent from beyond the arc and forcing 26 turnovers.

Under Smith's leadership, Prairie View A&M continues to emphasize pressure defense, transition play, and rebounding—key elements that have been trademarks of the program's success over the past decade.

About the Shockers
Wichita State, led by Head Coach Paul Mills, returns only three letterwinners from last season but has reloaded through the transfer portal. Kenyon Giles paced the Shockers with 20 points in his debut, while Karon Boyd contributed an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double.

The Shockers were picked to finish fifth in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll and open the season ranked No. 119 in KenPom. Despite a youthful roster, Mills' squad remains disciplined defensively and efficient in half-court execution.

Series History
This marks the fifth all-time meeting between Prairie View A&M and Wichita State. The Shockers lead the series 4-0, with all prior contests played in Wichita. The last meeting came during the 1998–99 season under former Wichita State head coach Randy Smithson.
