Prairie View A&M falls 97-85 to South Dakota

VERMILLION, SD --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 97-85 to the South Dakota Coyotes on the road Saturday.

The Panthers (4-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Dontae Horne, who had 20 points. Tai'Reon Joseph added 15 points and two steals and Joey Madimba chipped in as well with 12 points off the bench.

Keeshawn Mason pulled down two offensive rebounds to pace the Prairie View A&M offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 11 second chance points.

Prairie View A&M forced 13 South Dakota turnovers. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 11 points on the other end of the floor. Marcel Bryant led the way individually with two steals.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 54-36 heading into halftime.

South Dakota kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 71-49 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Hassane Diallo's layup, to shrink the deficit to 71-58 with 12:03 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, but South Dakota managed to hold on for the 97-85 win. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 30 of its 49 points in the lane.
