REED ARENA, Bryan --Crystal Schultz and Jacque Giron combined to score 42 total points - 70 percent of Prairie View A&M's points - but the Lady Panthers fell to the Texas A&M Aggies 93-60 on the road Sunday.
Schultz led the Lady Panthers (2-9) with 24 points and two steals. Giron added 18 points and Alana Shields chipped in as well with 11 points, five assists and two steals.
The Prairie View A&M offense was very productive from deep, knocking down 10 threes on 26 attempts. Schultz was the most prolific shooter for the Lady Panthers, draining five treys in the contest.
The Prairie View A&M defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Sunday's game, forcing 13 Texas A&M turnovers. Those takeaways turned into eight points on the other end of the floor. Cj Wilson led the way individually for the Lady Panthers with two steals.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 50-24 halftime deficit.
Texas A&M continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 72-28 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Giron, to trim its deficit to 72-34 with 2:28 to go in the third. The Lady Panthers continued to reduce the Texas A&M lead, shrinking it to 74-37 by the end of the third quarter. Prairie View A&M knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 13 total points.
Prairie View A&M came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Schultz's layup, to shrink the deficit to 74-47 with 8:31 to go in the contest. Texas A&M responded and outscored the Lady Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 93-60. Prairie View A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 23 points.
