BATON ROUGE, LA --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 15-point performance from the bench, but fell 86-42 to the Southern Jaguars on the road Saturday.
Nia Jordan led the Panthers (6-16, 3-10) with 11 points. Amauri Williams also tacked on eight points and Nyam Thornton helped out with two points and seven assists.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 25-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 36-13 halftime deficit.
Southern continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 41-16 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 41-21 with 7:12 to go in the third. Southern countered and stretched its lead to 60-26 heading into the fourth.
Southern kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 79-33 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Crystal Schultz's three, to shrink the deficit to 79-39 with 2:19 to go in the contest. Southern responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 86-42. Prairie View A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 16 points.
