JACKSON, MS --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team held Jackson State to just 18.2 percent from beyond the arc in a 2-for-11 shooting performance on the way to a 71-63 victory over the Tigers on the road Thursday.

How It Happened
After falling behind 2-0, Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run with 7:35 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Amauri Williams, to take a 6-2 lead. The Panthers then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 21-14 advantage. Prairie View A&M did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 14 of its 21 points close to the basket.
The Panthers maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 33-29 edge. Prairie View A&M saw non-starters score seven of its 12 total points off the bench in the quarter.
Following intermission, Prairie View A&M continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 45-40 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Nyam Thornton, to expand its lead further to 51-40 with 1:36 to go in the third. The Panthers held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 55-44 edge. Prairie View A&M's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled seven of the team's 22 third-quarter points.
The Panthers then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter.
