COLLEGE PARK, GA --Marcel Bryant registered a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Florida A&M Rattlers 75-66 at The Gateway Center Arena at College Park Tuesday in postseason play.
In addition to Bryant's double-double, the Panthers were led by Tanahj Pettway, who had 19 points, and by Braelon Bush, who added eight points and six assists.
The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Tuesday's game, forcing 13 Florida A&M turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Bryant's two steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-7, Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run with 15:00 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Pettway, to take a 16-9 lead. The Panthers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-23 advantage. Prairie View A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 32 points close to the basket.
Florida A&M proceeded to take a 65-48 lead before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 65-54 with 4:27 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, holding the lead with 16:56 left to play, but Florida A&M managed to hold on for the 75-66 win. Prairie View A&M got out on the break in the period, scoring seven fast break points.
