4/17/2025 4:32:00 PM

Prairie View A&M's tennis teams are gearing up for this year's SWAC Tennis Championships, starting on April 18 at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The men's and women's teams, both seeded fifth, will face tough opponents in hopes of advancing to the finals.

The Panthers' men's team will go head-to-head with the #3 seed, Jackson State, in the quarterfinals scheduled for 1 PM on Friday, April 18. A victory there would send them to the semifinals at 10 AM the following Saturday, with the championship round on Sunday morning. The Panthers are looking to reclaim their prowess, having last won the SWAC title in 2013, after a rich history of 21 championships.

Similarly, the women's team will challenge the #4 seed, Alabama A&M, at 9 AM on the opening day of the tournament. A win in this opening round would move them to the semi-finals on Saturday morning, marking a significant step for a team looking to make its mark and secure its first SWAC championship.

Both teams have standout players who have received SWAC weekly honors, with Andrea Pascual Blanca shining for the women's team and Xavier Peter-Gooding earning the accolade twice for the men's side. Coaches Duane Williams and James Cowan IV are optimistic about their teams' preparations and the resilience they've shown throughout the season.

As the championship unfolds, the Panthers are determined to showcase their skills and bring glory back to Prairie View A&M. Fans and supporters are eager to see if both teams can navigate their challenging initial matchups and make a deep run in this prestigious conference tournament.
