Prairie View A&M rallies from fifth-inning deficit, defeats Texas Southern 5-3

HOUSTON, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fought back from down 3-0 in the fifth inning to defeat the Texas Southern Tigers 5-3 Friday.

Freshman B. Moreno (8-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (21-18, 15-3). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were paced by senior J. Thomas, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two doubles and two RBI. Senior C. Massey compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior M. Nunez also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of Massey.

The Panthers then held the Tigers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Prairie View A&M pushed across a run on Thomas' two-out RBI double, which brought the Panthers lead to 5-3. The score remained 5-3 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M held on for the win.
