Senior
Christion Derrick has officially qualified to participate in the upcoming NCAA West Regionals First Round. Derrick's recent performance at the SWAC outdoor championships, where he finished fourth with a personal record of 46.00 seconds in the 400m, secured his spot in this high-stakes competition. Remarkably, only 48 athletes qualify for each event, highlighting the level of Derrick's accomplishment.
This year's participation marks Derrick's second appearance at the NCAA West Regionals First Round, having previously competed in 2024. During that year, he recorded a time of 46.56 seconds. As his senior year unfolds, Derrick's continued improvement and dedication to the sport are evident. His impressive performance not only reflects personal growth but also enhances the competitive spirit and reputation of the Prairie View A&M Panthers Track and Field team.
The NCAA West Regionals will be held at E.B. Cushing Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, with the events scheduled from May 28 to May 31. Derrick is set to compete in the prelims of his event on May 28 at 7:25 PM. Should he place in the top 24, he will advance to the next round on May 30, striving to secure a position at the NCAA National Championships.
