PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The wait is over. Prairie View A&M Football will officially open the 2025 home slate tonight when the Panthers host the UTRGV Vaqueros at Panther Stadium at Blackshear Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The Panthers (1–0) enter the matchup riding momentum after last week's thrilling 22–21 victory over Texas Southern in the 40th Labor Day Classic at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston. In his debut, head coach Tremaine Jackson guided Prairie View to one of the most dramatic finishes in rivalry history as quarterback Cameron Peters connected with wide receiver Rodny Ojo on a 13-yard touchdown pass as time expired. The win not only marked Jackson's first career victory at PVAMU but also extended the Panthers' winning streak to four games dating back to the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Tonight's game carries historical significance as UTRGV takes the field for its first-ever Division I football game. The Vaqueros, playing their inaugural contest at the FCS level, enter Panther Stadium with a roster built from transfers and newcomers eager to make their mark.
"This is an exciting moment for Prairie View A&M and for college football," Jackson said. "We're proud of how we competed last week, but tonight is about continuing to establish our identity in front of our home fans."
