Lamagea “Maj” McDowell is a graduate student at Prairie View A&M University, playing as a running back. He hails from Charlotte, NC, and graduated from Hunter Huss High School.
He majors in Business Administration. His favorite entertainers are Cam Newton and LeBron James, and his favorite movie is 2012. He enjoys lemon pepper wings and teriyaki hibachi. His favorite holiday is Juneteenth, as it celebrates the freedom of his ancestors.
Lamagea’s hobbies include working out, drawing and sculpting, hiking, video gaming, and watching movies and shows.
On game days, Lamagea follows a detailed ritual: jogging around the 50-yard line, reviewing the first 10 plays of the game, running through all his run/pass routes, practicing pass protection, and finishing with 10 minutes of meditation and prayer.
He believes the greatest challenges for athletes today are battling distractions like social media and navigating the new landscape of college sports with NIL and the transfer portal, which can be beneficial if managed well.
Lamagea’s most memorable moments include winning back-to-back state championships in high school, earning Offensive MVP both years, and recently scoring the game-winning touchdown in a 5-overtime win against Grambling in the State Fair Classic.
In five years, Lamagea hopes to have earned his master’s degree (being the first generation in his family to do so), play in the NFL, start a family, and launch a real estate company with multiple Airbnb properties.
His dream job is to be an NFL player.
He chose Prairie View A&M because of the relationship he built with former Offensive Coordinator Anthony Weeden, the experience of HBCU culture, and the opportunity to create a lifelong legacy.
