1/10/2026 7:27:00 PM

Prairie View A&M women's track & field opened its 2026 indoor track and field campaign with a slate of solid early-season performances at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational on Saturday at Yeoman Fieldhouse. In the first meet of the new year, the Panthers turned in several top-eight finishes across the sprints, distance and field events to establish an early foundation for the indoor schedule.

On the track, middle-distance and distance athletes led the way. Nina Story posted the team's top individual finish of the day, placing second in the 1,000 meters in 3:10.86. The performance gave Prairie View A&M a podium presence in one of the meet's featured events and set a strong tone for the distance group's indoor season.

The Panthers also showed depth in the 600-yard run, where two athletes earned top-five placements. Treasure Bethea clocked 1:28.25 to take fourth, while Nikiyah Williams crossed in 1:29.47 for fifth. Their back-to-back finishes highlighted an early-season strength for Prairie View A&M in the middle-distance events as the program transitions into the bulk of the indoor schedule.

In the field events, Prairie View A&M recorded multiple scoring-caliber marks. In the vertical jumps, Kimora Maxey cleared 1.65 meters in the high jump to secure third place and a spot on the awards stand. In the horizontal jumps, Jada Stanford reached 12.06 meters in the triple jump, finishing fifth and adding another top-eight performance to the Panthers' tally.

The throws group contributed two strong results in the ring. Kayla Woodrow placed eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.56 meters, while Michaela Booker finished fifth in the shot put at 13.98 meters. Both throwers opened the indoor season with competitive efforts that position Prairie View A&M well for continued progression in the coming meets.

With the first indoor competition of 2026 now complete and full meet results available online, Prairie View A&M turns its attention to a high-profile stage next week. The Panthers are scheduled to travel to New York City for the HBCU Showcase at The Armory, where the team will look to build on its early-season marks against a strong field of conference and regional opponents.
