Cory Wells was named the SWAC Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced, following an impressive two-game stretch in league play.
Wells averaged 17.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while logging 38.0 minutes per contest, showcasing his versatility and all-around impact for the Panthers. He shot 37.2 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three-point range, and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line during the week.
In Prairie View A&M's matchup against Mississippi Valley State on Jan. 10, Wells finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals in 36 minutes, providing a strong two-way presence. He followed with a standout performance on Jan. 12 versus Arkansas–Pine Bluff, recording 21 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in 40 minutes to secure a double-double.
Defensively, Wells was active throughout the week, totaling five steals, while committing just two turnovers across both contests. His ability to score, rebound from the guard position, facilitate the offense, and defend multiple positions helped set the tone for the Panthers during conference play.
Wells' consistent production and leadership earned him conference recognition as one of the SWAC's top newcomers for the week.
