LORMAN, MS --Crystal Schultz and Alana Shields combined to score 28 total points - 65.1 percent of Prairie View A&M's points - but the Lady Panthers fell to the Alcorn State Braves 59-43 on the road Thursday.
Schultz led the Lady Panthers (2-14, 0-5) with 16 points. Shields added 12 points and two steals and Preston Young helped out with seven points and 13 rebounds off of the bench.
Young pulled down five offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Prairie View A&M, grabbing 11 boards and turning them into nine second chance points.
Prairie View A&M forced 19 Alcorn State turnovers while committing 16 themselves in Thursday's game. The Lady Panthers turned those takeaways into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Shields' two steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.

Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 16-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 26-12 halftime deficit.
Prairie View A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Panthers faced a 41-21 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M took advantage of three Alcorn State turnovers in the quarter, scoring three points off of takeaways.
Alcorn State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 45-21 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Shields' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 45-29 with 6:40 to go in the contest. The Lady Panthers were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 59-43. Prairie View A&M took advantage of eight Alcorn State turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of those takeaways.
