Dontae Horne was named the SWAC Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced, following a standout pair of road performances against Jackson State and Alcorn State.
Horne led the Panthers offensively in both contests, averaging 35.0 points per game, while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three-point range. He also contributed 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game, logging heavy minutes and producing at a high level against conference opponents.
The newcomer delivered a career-high 38 points at Jackson State on January 17, playing 39 minutes and connecting on 10-of-22 shots, including four three-pointers. He was aggressive attacking the basket, converting 14-of-20 free throws, and added five rebounds and three steals in the effort.
Horne followed with another impressive showing at Alcorn State on January 19, scoring 32 points on 12-of-23 shooting, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc, while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. He also recorded three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Horne's back-to-back 30-point performances marked one of the most productive offensive weeks by a newcomer in the conference this season and underscored his immediate impact in SWAC play for the Panthers.
