GRAMBLING, LA --Crystal Schultz and Cj Wilson combined to score 40 total points - 66.7 percent of Prairie View A&M's points - but the Lady Panthers fell to the Grambling Tigers 85-60 on the road Saturday.
The Lady Panthers (2-11, 0-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Schultz, who had 25 points. Wilson added 15 points, six rebounds and seven steals and Jacque Giron added two steals.
Prairie View A&M forced 22 Grambling turnovers. The Lady Panthers turned those takeaways into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Wilson's seven steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 24-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Prairie View A&M kept the Tigers from increasing their lead before going on a 10-0 run to narrow its deficit to 29-26. Grambling responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Lady Panthers trailing 41-31 heading into halftime.
Prairie View A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Panthers faced a 63-40 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M took advantage of six Grambling turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of takeaways.
Grambling kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 85-55 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 85-60 with 18 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Prairie View A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 20 points.
