A pair of Panthers lead Prairie View A&M past Texas Southern in 85-78 win

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Tai'Reon Joseph collected 31 points and Dontae Horne added 23 and the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team beat the Texas Southern Tigers 85-78 at home Saturday.

The Panthers (9-13, 4-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Joseph, who had 31 points. Horne added 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Joey Madimba chipped in as well with 15 points and two steals off the bench.

The Prairie View A&M offense was very productive from beyond the arc, knocking down nine threes on 27 attempts. Joseph was the most prolific shooter for the Panthers, draining five treys in the contest.

Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Texas Southern shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Cory Wells led the way individually for the Panthers with three rejections.

How It Happened

After playing to a 17-17 tie, Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run with 10:07 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Joseph, to take a 26-17 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 41-40.

After intermission, Prairie View A&M managed to gain control and had a 66-64 lead before going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Madimba's layup, to grow the lead to 77-64 with 4:05 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still cruised the rest of the way for the 85-78 win.
