BATON ROUGE, La. - The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team continues Southwestern Athletic Conference play Monday night when it travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to face Southern University at the F.G. Clark Activity Center. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. as the Panthers look to secure their first league win of the season.

Tai'Reon Joseph, the team's top scorer at 22.4 points per game. Joseph has been a steady offensive presence throughout the season and is also active defensively, creating transition opportunities for the Panthers. In the paint,
Cory Wells provides a physical presence, leading the team with 6.6 rebounds per game while also averaging 0.9 blocks.
Dontae Horne serves as the catalyst in the back court, pacing the Panthers with 2.9 assists and a team-best 2.4 steals per game, while
Lance Williams adds consistent scoring and perimeter defense.
The match up renews a long-standing SWAC rivalry. Southern holds a 51–26 advantage in the all-time series between the programs. The teams last met on Feb. 15, 2025, when the Jaguars earned a 72–60 victory in Baton Rouge.
Prairie View A&M will look to apply defensive pressure, control the glass, and convert in transition as it aims to change the narrative in conference play Monday night.
The Panthers are coming off a 76–72 road loss at Grambling State in their SWAC opener on Saturday.
Tai'Reon Joseph led Prairie View A&M with 21 points and four steals, while
Dontae Horne recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Lance Williams added 15 points and two steals in the contest.
Prairie View A&M forced 20 turnovers and turned those takeaways into 15 points, while also scoring 18 fast-break points. The Panthers were active on the offensive glass, pulling down 13 offensive rebounds that led to 12 second-chance points.
After tying the game at 24 midway through the first half, Prairie View A&M went into halftime trailing 37–30. The Panthers cut into the deficit in the second half and made it a one-possession game late but were unable to complete the comeback.
