Joseph and Horne lead Prairie View A&M past Southern 89-85 for first SWAC win

BATON ROUGE, LA --Tai'Reon Joseph totaled 32 points and Dontae Horne added 21 and the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team knocked off the Southern Jaguars 89-85 on the road Monday.

Joseph and Horne's stellar scoring performances led the Panthers (6-9, 1-1) in the contest. Joseph tacked on five rebounds and two steals. Cory Wells also helped out with 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks.

Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Southern shots in the contest, coming away with nine blocks. Hassane Diallo led the way individually for the Panthers with four rejections.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 7-4 advantage, Prairie View A&M went on a 10-0 run with 17:03 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Joseph, to increase its lead to 17-4. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 45-38 advantage. Prairie View A&M got out and ran in the period, scoring 13 points on the break.

Southern proceeded to take a 63-61 lead before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Horne's layup, to seize a 67-63 lead with 8:56 to go in the contest. The Panthers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 89-85 win. Prairie View A&M capitalized on six Southern turnovers in the period, collecting 12 points off those turnovers.
