Defensive effort not enough as Prairie View A&M falls to Grambling 80-64

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team held Grambling to just 5.6 percent from deep in a 1-for-18 shooting performance, but fell 80-64 to the Tigers at home Thursday.

The Lady Panthers (2-21, 0-12) had three players score in double figures, led by Cj Wilson, who had 24 points and six rebounds. Jacque Giron tacked on 10 points, four assists and two blocks and Margan Allen chipped in as well with 10 points.

Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Grambling shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Marckalia Celestine's three rejections led the way individually for the Lady Panthers.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 23-21.

The Lady Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 43-32 halftime deficit.

Prairie View A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Panthers faced a 70-42 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M turned four offensive rebounds into six second chance points on the way to scoring 10 total points in the quarter.

Prairie View A&M narrowed its deficit to 80-54 before going on a 10-0 run to shrink the deficit to 80-64 with three seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Prairie View A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 22 points in the paint.
