Prairie View A&M rallies from eighth-inning deficit to beat Alcorn State 15-10

PEARL, Mississippi --The Prairie View A&M Panthers rallied from down 10-8 in the eighth inning to win in thrilling fashion, tallying seven runs in the ninth to earn a 15-10 victory over the Alcorn State Braves Saturday.

Kaleb Thompkins (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (2-0). The right-hander went 0.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits. Ty Pankonin also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were paced by Basillo Williams, who went 2-for-2 on the day with two walks and three RBIs. Tyvon Moore put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-5 with a walk and two RBIs. Jordan Williams also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double, two walks and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice, with one run coming across on Brenton Jackson's single.

The Panthers lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 5-2. B. Williams came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Braves.

Prairie View A&M kept the Braves off the scoreboard before rallying to grab a 7-5 lead in the sixth. The Panthers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Moore.

Prairie View A&M held the Braves without a run before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of B. Williams, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 8-5.

Alcorn State then mounted a comeback, taking a 10-8 lead heading into the ninth, when the Panthers re-gained a 15-10 advantage. The Prairie View A&M offense piled up seven runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of B. Williams. The score remained 15-10 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
