LAFAYETTE, La. --It was a heart breaker on Sunday, as the Prairie View A&M Panthers came up one run short of victory, falling to the Texas A&M-CC Islanders 2-1.
Sophomore Yazmyn Stewart (1-2) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (3-5) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Panthers were led by Ashlee Elizarraras, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Prairie View A&M got on the board thanks to Elizarraras' RBI double with two outs. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Texas A&M-CC scored two times over the remaining six innings to grab the 2-1 win.
