PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Dontae Horne totaled 26 points to help lead the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team over the Grambling Tigers 68-63 at home Monday.
The Panthers (10-16, 5-8) had two players score in double figures, led by Horne, who had 26 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Cory Wells tacked on 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals and Joey Madimba added nine points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Monday's game, forcing 17 Grambling turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Wells' two steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M started out the scoring by going on a 10-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Corey Dunning, to take an early lead with 14:29 left in the first half. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 35-33 advantage. Prairie View A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 35 points close to the basket.
Grambling State proceeded to take a 55-49 lead before Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run to seize a 57-55 lead with 6:24 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 68-63 win. Prairie View A&M got out on the break in the period, scoring eight fast break points.
