HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Prairie View A&M Panthers opened play at the Bearkat Invitational in impressive fashion, posting a pair of victories Friday with a dramatic 4–3 extra-inning win over Austin Peay Governors followed by a convincing 7–1 victory against Houston Christian Huskies.
Game 1
Prairie View A&M began the day with a thrilling nine-inning comeback against Austin Peay. Trailing 3–0, the Panthers erupted in the sixth inning, sparked by a two-run home run from senior Mia Nunez that fueled a three-run rally to even the score. The contest remained knotted until the ninth inning, when sophomore Kirstyn Jones crossed the plate with the go-ahead run to secure the 4–3 victory.
The Panthers out-hit the Governors 9–4 and held Austin Peay to just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
In Game Two, Prairie View A&M carried its momentum into a dominant 7–1 win over Houston Christian. After responding to an early deficit with an RBI single from senior Yani McKinley, the Panthers broke the game open in the fifth inning with a six-run outburst. Junior Sabela Rodriguez highlighted the rally with a two-run single as Prairie View A&M pulled away.
Junior Kayla Adams earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four. Offensively, Prairie View A&M collected 12 hits, with four Panthers recording multiple hits. Junior Ryana Cruz led the charge, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases, as the Panthers swiped six bases on the day.
