HUNTSVILLE, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 6-3 to the Austin Peay Governors Sunday.
Kayla Adams (3-2) came out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (6-8) and took the loss. The right-hander went three innings, giving up four runs, one earned, on three hits.
At the plate, the Panthers were paced by senior Mia Nunez, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Freshman Ma. Martinez put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Yani McKinley also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice in the inning on run-scoring doubles from Nunez and Martinez.
The Governors then tied the ballgame at two before the Panthers came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of McKinley, which brought the Panthers lead to 3-2. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Austin Peay scored four times over the remaining three innings to grab the 6-3 win.
