Prairie View A&M softball was well represented when the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2026 preseason awards, all-conference teams, and predicted order of finish, with the Panthers emerging as one of the league's top contenders entering the new season.
The Panthers placed four student-athletes on the Preseason All-SWAC First Team, highlighted by
Reagan Green (1B),
Kearstin Tinsley (2B),
Mia Nunez (OF), and
Kayla Adams (P), while
Dyani McKinley (3B) earned Preseason All-SWAC Second Team honors.
Green returns after a standout 2025 campaign that earned her First Team All-SWAC recognition. In her third season, she appeared in 39 games with 30 starts, batting .341 with 31 hits, 24 RBIs, and a .406 on-base percentage. Green's disciplined approach at the plate resulted in just 10 strikeouts in 91 at-bats. Defensively, she was a pillar of consistency at first base, posting a .995 fielding percentage with 180 putouts, seven assists, and only one error.
Tinsley made an immediate impact during her freshman season and enters 2026 as one of the SWAC's most dynamic middle infielders. Starting 42 of 44 games, she hit .315 with 35 hits, 31 runs scored, and 10 RBIs, while drawing 27 walks for a .450 on-base percentage. Her speed was a game-changer, as she stole 32 bases, and defensively she added 80 putouts and 58 assists, finishing with a .945 fielding percentage.
Nunez put together a strong junior campaign and earned Preseason First Team All-SWAC honors for her all-around production at the plate and on the basepaths. Over 46 games (45 starts), she hit .305 with 40 hits, 41 runs scored, 27 RBIs, and a .481 slugging percentage. She showed excellent plate discipline with 25 walks and four hit-by-pitches, raising her on-base percentage to .418. A constant threat on the bases, Nunez swiped 20 stolen bases and added five sacrifice flies.
Defensively, she continued her steady improvement in the outfield, posting a .947 fielding percentage.
Adams' selection to the Preseason First Team highlights Prairie View A&M's strength in the circle as the Panthers prepare for the upcoming campaign.
McKinley added to the Panthers' preseason accolades with Second Team All-SWAC honors at third base, further reinforcing Prairie View A&M's depth and balance across the infield.
In addition to individual honors, Prairie View A&M was picked to finish first in the SWAC West Division, receiving 110 points and 14 first-place votes, the most of any team in either division. The Panthers were followed in the West by Texas Southern (88 points, three first-place votes), Southern (70 points, two first-place votes), Grambling State (67 points), Arkansas–Pine Bluff (44 points, two first-place votes), and Alcorn State (40 points).
In the East Division, Jackson State was predicted to finish first with 105 points and 11 first-place votes, followed by Florida A&M (85 points, seven first-place votes), Alabama State (80 points, three first-place votes), Bethune-Cookman (72 points), Alabama A&M (48 points), and Mississippi Valley State (22 points).
Across the league, Grambling State's Kamryn Broussard was named Preseason Player of the Year, while Florida A&M's Amari Brown earned Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors.
With five Panthers earning preseason recognition and the program projected atop the SWAC West, Prairie View A&M enters the 2026 season with momentum, confidence, and championship expectations as it prepares to compete for conference supremacy.
