LORMAN, Miss. -- The Prairie View A&M softball team continues Southwestern Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game road series against the Alcorn State Braves softball at the Alcorn Softball Complex in Lorman, Mississippi.
The series begins Friday, March 13, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. as the Lady Panthers look to continue their strong start to conference play.

Prairie View A&M enters the weekend 11-11 overall and 3-0 in SWAC play after completing a three-game sweep of the Southern Jaguars softball to open conference action.
The Lady Panthers opened the series with a doubleheader sweep, earning a 9-1 run-rule victory in Game 1 and following with a 9-3 win in Game 2. PVAMU capped the sweep with an 8-5 victory in the finale, rallying from an early deficit behind timely hitting and strong pitching.
Prairie View A&M showcased its offensive depth throughout the series. Morgan Smith led the way with a perfect week at the plate, going 7-for-7 with five RBIs, while Isabela Rodriguez and Jade Uresti each recorded three-hit performances in the finale.
In the circle, Kyla Adams played a major role in the sweep, earning two victories while pitching 11 innings, allowing just five hits and three earned runs with seven strikeouts. Adams' efforts earned her SWAC Pitcher of the Week recognition after posting a 1.91 ERA across two appearances.
SCOUTING THE LADY PANTHERS
Prairie View A&M has been productive offensively this season, hitting .305 as a team while averaging 4.7 runs per game and 7.7 hits per contest. The Panthers also feature an aggressive approach on the basepaths and have consistently pressured opposing defenses with speed.
Smith has been one of the Panthers' hottest hitters entering the weekend, providing consistent run production and reaching base in every game during the series against Southern.
TWO LADY PANTHERS EARN SWAC WEEKLY HONORS
Prairie View A&M saw two players recognized for their outstanding performances during the conference-opening sweep.
Kyla Adams earned SWAC Pitcher of the Week honors after posting a 2-0 record across two appearances. Adams threw 11 innings, allowing just five hits and three earned runs while striking out seven batters for a 1.91 ERA.
She opened the series by tossing five strong innings in a 9-1 victory, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Adams followed with another dominant outing, pitching six innings and allowing just one hit while striking out four in an 8-5 win.
At the plate, Morgan Smith delivered a remarkable week and earned SWAC Hitter of the Week honors after going 7-for-7 during the three-game sweep.
Smith finished the stretch with a .485 batting average, five RBIs, a double, and two walks, reaching base in every game and delivering several key hits that fueled the Panthers' offensive surge.
SCOUTING ALCORN STATE
Alcorn State enters the weekend 9-11 overall and 0-1 in SWAC play after a series at the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions softball was suspended in the seventh inning of Game 2 due to inclement weather.
The Braves are hitting .295 as a team and have scored 125 runs this season. Rajayla McBride leads the offense with a .378 batting average and five stolen bases, while Yahnya Acevedo adds power with a .350 average, 18 RBIs, and a team-best .633 slugging percentage.
Behind the plate, Paris Thompson is batting .340 with 13 RBIs and a .459 on-base percentage, while Karmen Bernard has contributed 13 RBIs and leads the team with five sacrifice hits.
In the circle, Chiara Olison anchors the pitching staff with a 6-6 record and a team-high 62 innings pitched. She also contributes offensively with a .361 batting average, making her one of the Braves' most versatile players.

The Braves are coming off a 9-1 loss to the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters softball in Ruston, Louisiana. Sanai Salvant recorded Alcorn's lone hit and scored the team's only run in the contest.

Prairie View A&M has controlled the series in recent years, holding a 23-7 advantage since 2011 over the Alcorn State Braves softball. The Panthers have also won 13 consecutive meetings, dating back to the 2022 season.
The last time Alcorn claimed a series win over Prairie View A&M came in 2016 in Prairie View, Texas, while the Braves previously won three straight matchups from 2014–2016.
