Lady Panthers Dominate Grambling in Doubleheader Sweep, Stay Perfect in SWAC Play

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers put together a dominant Saturday at the PVAMU Softball Complex, sweeping Grambling State in a doubleheader behind strong pitching, aggressive base running, and timely hitting to extend their winning streak.

GAME 1 PVAMU 8, GSU 0
In game one, Yazmyn Stewart delivered a stellar performance in the circle, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead Prairie View A&M to an 8-0 victory. Stewart (5-2) went the distance, allowing just one hit while walking two and striking out one in a commanding outing.

The Lady Panthers (16-11, 8-0) broke through in the second inning when Dyani McKinley drove in Michelle Meeks with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. Prairie View A&M continued to apply pressure, scoring in four consecutive innings, highlighted by a four-run fourth inning. Morgan Smith sparked the offense, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple, and RBI.

The Panthers dominated in every facet, out-hitting Grambling 12-1 while swiping eight bases and going 6-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Their pitching staff also held Grambling scoreless in opportunities, limiting the Tigers to 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Prairie View A&M carried that momentum into game two, completing the sweep with a 9-5 victory to improve to 17-11 overall and a perfect 9-0 in conference play.

GAME 2 PVAMU 9, GSU 5
Kayla Adams earned the win in the nightcap, going six innings while allowing five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Stewart returned in relief to close things out with a scoreless final inning.

After falling behind early, the Lady Panthers answered in the second inning as Meeks once again crossed the plate to even the score. Prairie View A&M broke things open in the fourth inning, building a 4-1 advantage before adding three more runs in the fifth to stretch the lead to 7-1.

Grambling attempted a late push, narrowing the gap to 7-4, but the Panthers responded with two insurance runs in the sixth. Reagan Green delivered a key RBI double to help seal the 9-5 win.

Offensively, Prairie View A&M tallied 11 hits and matched their game one effort with eight stolen bases, continuing their aggressive approach on the base paths. The Panthers also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks and hitting .400 (6-for-15) with runners in scoring position.

With the sweep, the Lady Panthers remain unbeaten in conference play and continue to build momentum heading into their next contest.

Prairie View A&M will be back in action on Tuesday, March 24, traveling to San Antonio for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch against the UTSA Roadrunners at the Roadrunner Softball Field.
