SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Riding a wave of momentum, the Prairie View A&M softball team travels to San Antonio for a non-conference showdown against UTSA on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field as the Lady Panthers look to extend their current winning streak.
Prairie View A&M (17-11, 9-0 SWAC) enters the contest as one of the hottest teams in the region, carrying a nine-game winning streak into the matchup. The Lady Panthers have been dominant during that stretch, most recently sweeping Grambling State in convincing fashion, outscoring the Tigers 36-6 over the series. PVAMU has not dropped a game since March 1 and continues to assert itself atop the SWAC standings.
Offensively, the Lady Panthers have showcased depth and consistency throughout the lineup. Morgan Smith has been sensational at the plate, leading the team with a .542 batting average and a .621 on-base percentage while swiping 12 bases. Mia Nunez has provided power in the middle of the order, batting .342 with nine doubles, three triples, six home runs, and a team-high 30 RBIs.
Additional contributors include Kayla Zaid (.368), Dyani McKinley (.359), and Aryana Cruz (.359), all of whom have helped fuel a balanced offensive attack. Prairie View's speed on the bases has also been a factor, with multiple players recording double-digit stolen bases this season.
In the circle, Kayla Adams (9-4) has been a steady presence, posting a 2.79 ERA with 46 strikeouts across 80.1 innings pitched. She has recorded eight complete games and will be a key factor in slowing down the Roadrunner offense. Yasmyn Stewart (5-2) adds depth to the pitching staff, tallying 24 strikeouts in 55 innings of work.
UTSA (18-15, 7-2 American) enters Tuesday's contest looking to bounce back after dropping a three-game series to North Texas. Despite the setback, the Roadrunners enjoyed a historic start to conference play, opening 7-0 in the American Athletic Conference.
Makayla Madrid leads UTSA at the plate and is coming off an impressive week in which she hit .643 with a 1.714 OPS. She totaled nine hits, including two home runs, while driving in four runs and scoring four times in games against North Texas and Sam Houston.
Tuesday's matchup presents a strong test for both programs, with Prairie View A&M aiming to continue its winning ways and UTSA looking to defend its home field.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Roadrunner Field in San Antonio.
