Prairie View A&M's ninth-inning comeback falls short in loss to Our Lady of the Lake

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers put together a last-chance comeback, scoring four runs in the ninth inning, but the late-game rally came up short and they fell 13-10 to the Our Lady of the Lake Saints Tuesday.

Isaac Herrera (0-1) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (5-18) and took the loss. The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out one. Ty Pankonin was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by Ryland Duson, who went 4-for-6 on the day with a triple and two RBIs. Hunter Ham put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Basilio Williams also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in six trips to the plate while adding a triple and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 7-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Ethan Walker came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.

The Panthers deficit expanded to 10-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run error off the bat of Ham, which tightened the Saints lead to 10-6.

Our Lady of the Lake built their lead to 13-6 before the Prairie View A&M offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 13-10 in the ninth. The Panthers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Duson. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
