Panthers Edge Tigers in Game One, Explode for 18 Runs to Secure Dominant Doubleheader Sweep

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — Prairie View A&M delivered a complete performance on Saturday, using timely hitting and dominant offense to sweep Texas Southern in a doubleheader, highlighted by a narrow 3-2 victory in game one and an emphatic 18-2 run-rule win in game two.

In the opener, the Panthers (18-12, 10-1) leaned on a strong outing from Yazmyn Stewart, who improved to 6-2 after tossing a complete game. The right-hander allowed just two runs, one earned, on six hits while working around three walks.

Trailing early, Prairie View A&M responded in the third inning as Isabela Rodriguez crossed the plate to tie the game. The Panthers took control in the fourth when Za'Riya Bell-Morris delivered a clutch two-RBI single, scoring Lainey Neiderhofer and Mia Nunez to give PVAMU a 3-1 advantage. Texas Southern added a late run, but the Panthers held firm to secure the 3-2 win. Bell-Morris led the way offensively, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Reagan Green added two hits, including a double.

Game two told a completely different story, as Prairie View A&M's offense erupted for 18 runs on 15 hits in a dominant showing.

Kayla Adams (11-6) earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs on two hits over four innings. At the plate, Kayla Zaid powered the Panthers with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, adding a triple and two RBIs. Mia Nunez and Kearstin Tinsley each drove in three runs, while Martiza Martinez and Morgan Smith delivered key extra-base hits during the offensive outburst.

After jumping out to an early lead, Prairie View A&M broke the game open in the second and third innings, scoring 11 combined runs, including a seven-run third inning that put the contest out of reach. The Panthers continued to apply pressure, going an impressive 10-for-14 with runners in scoring position and capitalizing in nearly every opportunity.

Prairie View A&M's pitching and defense complemented the offensive surge, holding Texas Southern to just three hits in the game.

With the sweep, the Panthers showcased both their ability to win tight contests and dominate offensively, continuing their strong play in conference action.
