GRAMBLING, La. – The Prairie View A&M softball team delivered an impressive showing on Friday, sweeping Grambling State in a doubleheader with a 9-5 comeback win in Game 1 followed by a dominant five innings 15-5 victory in Game 2.
With the pair of wins, the Lady Panthers improved to 21-14 overall and 13-1 in SWAC play.
Game 1: Prairie View A&M 9, Grambling 5
Prairie View A&M used a late surge to rally past Grambling in the opener. Trailing 4-3 entering the sixth inning, the Panthers erupted for six runs to take control of the game.
Kayla Adams (12-6) earned the complete-game victory, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out six.
Offensively, Mia Nunez led the way, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a walk. Reagan Green added two hits and three RBIs, while Caidence Martin delivered a clutch two-run triple in the decisive sixth inning.
The Panthers collected 10 hits, stole eight bases, and went 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position while drawing 15 walks.
Game 2: Prairie View A&M 15, Grambling 5
The Panthers carried their momentum into Game 2, exploding offensively behind a monster performance from Martin.
Martin went 3-for-4 with a double and six RBIs to pace Prairie View A&M, while Michelle Meeks added a 2-for-4 outing with a triple and three RBIs. Isabela Rodriguez also chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
Yazmyn Stewart (7-2) picked up the win in the circle, pitching five innings and allowing five runs on three hits.
Prairie View A&M jumped out early with two runs in the first and extended the lead with a five-run second inning. After Grambling cut into the deficit, the Panthers put the game away with an eight-run fifth inning, highlighted by Meeks' three-run triple and another RBI hit from Martin.
The Panthers finished with nine hits, stole six bases, and drew 11 walks, with every starter reaching base safely.
