Prairie View, Texas — The Prairie View A&M Panthers split Saturday's doubleheader against UAPB, falling 22-8 in game one before rallying for a thrilling 10-9 victory in game two.
In the opener, Prairie View A&M (7-26, 3-11) put together a strong offensive showing with eight runs but could not slow down a high-powered UAPB attack. The Golden Lions jumped out early and led 6-0 before the Panthers responded with a six-run sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run double from Sonnier Moses and a two-run single by Basilio Williams.
UAPB answered in a big way, erupting for 15 runs to regain control of the game. Prairie View A&M added two more runs in the eighth, including an RBI single from Brandon Stinson, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Moses led the Panthers offensively in game one with three RBIs, while Williams added two RBIs and reached base three times. Ty Pankonin provided a bright spot on the mound, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.
The Panthers bounced back in game two with resilience, using a late rally to secure a 10-9 win. Trailing 9-8 in the seventh inning, Prairie View A&M continued to battle before breaking a 9-9 tie in the eighth on an RBI single by Hunter Ham to take the lead for good.
Isaac Herrera (1-1) earned the win out of the bullpen, delivering 3.2 innings while allowing two runs, none earned, on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Prairie View A&M's offense was consistent throughout the game, scoring in six different innings and racking up 15 hits. Ryland Duson and Sonnier Moses each recorded three-hit performances, while six Panthers finished with multiple hits. Ham led the way with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double and the game-winning RBI.
The Panthers were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping eight bases, including three from Ethan Walker, and capitalized on scoring opportunities by going 9-for-20 with runners in scoring position.
Prairie View A&M pitchers also delivered in key moments, limiting UAPB to just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position to help seal the comeback victory.
