Salinas homers twice in Prairie View A&M's 12-7 win against Texas Southern

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Zacarias Salinas put together a stellar showing at the plate Sunday, hitting two home runs to help propel the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Texas Southern Tigers 12-7.

Kamar Dove (1-8) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (8-33, 4-17). The right-hander went 1.1 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Jaxton Fipps also made an impact on the mound for the Panthers, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.

Salinas went 2-for-4 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with three RBIs. Michael Burroughs added to Salinas' awesome power-hitting performance by going 1 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs along with one walk. Ryland Duson also chipped in for the Panthers, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Duson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 4-1 before the Panthers offense got back to work, taking the lead in the sixth. Prairie View A&M hit three home runs in the inning on the way to pushing nine runs aross. which brought the score to 10-4 in favor of the Panthers.

Texas Southern narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 10-7 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 12-7 in the seventh inning. The Panthers added two to their tally on Salinas' two-run homer to . The score remained 12-7 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.
