PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- The Prairie View A&M Panthers turned in a complete team performance Thursday night as every starter reached base safely in an 11-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State at Tankersley Field.
Prairie View A&M (12-36, 8-18 SWAC) collected 19 hits in the contest while dominating on both sides of the ball. Seven Panthers recorded multiple hits, while three players posted three-hit performances in the win.
On the mound, Isaac Herrera delivered one of his strongest outings of the season, improving to 3-1 after tossing eight innings. The right-hander allowed just one run on nine hits, walked one, and struck out six Delta Devils hitters.
The Panthers wasted little time getting on the board, scoring twice in the opening inning. Zacarias Salinas highlighted the frame with an RBI single to give PVAMU an early advantage.
Mississippi Valley State trimmed the deficit to 2-1 before Prairie View A&M broke the game open in the fifth inning with three runs to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Panthers continued to add on in the sixth as Michael Burroughs delivered a two-run double that scored Tyvon Moore and Ryland Duson, pushing the margin to 7-1.
Prairie View A&M kept its offense rolling in the seventh inning, adding two more runs behind an RBI double from Duson to make it 9-1. The Panthers capped the scoring with two additional runs in the eighth inning and cruised to the 11-1 final.
Moore led Prairie View A&M offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Ethan Walker added two stolen bases as the Panthers swiped five bags as a team.
The Panthers were efficient in key situations, batting .429 (9-for-21) with runners in scoring position while holding Mississippi Valley State to just 2-for-10 in those opportunities.
Prairie View A&M never surrendered the lead after jumping ahead 2-0 in the first inning and out-hit the Delta Devils 19-9 in the victory.
