PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Senior Michael Burroughs delivered the finishing touch in dramatic fashion, blasting a walk-off two-run home run in the eighth inning to give Prairie View A&M a 14-4 run-rule victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday for Senior Day at Tankersley Field and clinch the series win for the Panthers last game of the season.
The Panthers (14-36, 10-18 SWAC) piled up 19 hits in the contest, with Jordan Williams and Burroughs each driving in four runs to lead the offensive explosion.
Alejandro Marquez (1-3) earned the win after tossing six innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out six. Kamar Dove shut the door out of the bullpen with two scoreless innings, surrendering no hits and striking out one.
Burroughs finished 2-for-4 with the game-ending homer and four RBIs, while Williams went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and four RBIs of his own. Hunter Ham added a perfect 3-for-3 performance that included a solo home run.
How It Happened
Mississippi Valley State struck first with a run in the opening inning before Prairie View A&M quickly answered with a three-run bottom half to take control.
After the Delta Devils tied the game at 3-3, Ham opened the fourth inning with a solo blast to put the Panthers back in front for good at 4-3.
Prairie View A&M extended the lead to 7-3 in the fifth before breaking the game open in the sixth. The Panthers plated five runs in the frame, highlighted by Williams' three-run double that pushed the advantage to 12-4.
The Panthers kept the Delta Devils off the board the rest of the way before Burroughs ended the contest in emphatic fashion in the eighth inning with a towering two-run walk-off homer to secure the 14-4 victory and the series win.
