Former SWAC standout pitcher Terry Burrel enters into his third season with the Panthers.

Last season, standout pitcher Darrien Williams was eighth in the SWAC in strikeouts. posting five or more strikeouts nine times in 11 starts. Williams, and Edgar Sanchez each posted career highs in wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched, while Charles Philpott set a career highs for wins.

Burrel joined the Panther coaching staff just prior to the start of the 2016 and had an immediate impact on the pitching staff.  Williams set a then career-high for innings pitched, as he and teammate Charles Philpott each earned SWAC Pitcher of the Week honors as the Panthers split the six game season series with then-defending SWAC Champion and 2016 SWAC runners-up Texas Southern.

A Native of Port Arthur, TX Burrel played under SWAC legend Candy Robinson. Burrel was a standout pitcher for Texas Southern from 1997-2000. After his playing career coach Burrel remained at Texas Southern as a volunteer pitching coach. Burrel went on to coach several select teams with great success within local and area organizations.
 
Burrel studied Sociology at Texas Southern where he met his wife of 11 years, Ro. Together they have two sons, Trey and Tyler.
