Clyde Edwards begins his second year as the running backs coach at Prairie View A&M. Previously, Edwards spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as an offensive graduate assistant on the Panther coaching staff.
In his first season as the team’s running backs coach, Edwards helped a pair of running backs in Courtney Brown and Johnta’ Hebert make history in 2013 as the duo combined to rush for nearly 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns. Brown, who earned All-SWAC Honors, became the first player since 2008 to surpass the 1,000-yard mark while Hebert nearly joined him as he had a 907-yard season. Both players were also valuable in the passing game as they combined to catch 91 passes for 765 yards while also rushing for a pair of 200-yard games over the course of the season with Hebert leading the SWAC in all-purpose yardage.
A native of Houston, Edwards was a four-year starter at Grambling State University from 2004 to 2007 and led the Tigers to two SWAC Championship Game appearances and a SWAC Championship in 2005.
Edwards was one of the most productive wide receivers in Grambling State history as he holds the school record for career touchdown receptions, receiving yards and career receptions. He is a two-time member of the Sheridan Broadcast Network All-American Team and also earned the SBN’s Scholar Athlete Award for his exceptional work in the classroom. As a result of his play on the gridiron, Edwards signed as an undrafted free agent with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008 and has also spent time playing professional indoor football.
He graduated from Grambling State in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in business marketing and a holds a master’s in business administration from Prairie View A&M.
