Jayda Gordon, a junior from Germantown, Maryland, is a Public Health major at Prairie View A&M University. Before joining the university, she attended Clarksburg High School, where she honed her skills both academically and athletically. Jayda is passionate about bowling, a sport she has dedicated herself to, exemplifying her commitment and determination.
Her favorite professional athlete is Keon Coleman, whose achievements inspire her to push her limits. When it comes to movies, Jayda loves The Princess and the Frog, and she enjoys indulging in oxtails as her favorite food. Thanksgiving holds a special place in her heart as her favorite holiday, as it allows her to be surrounded by family and enjoy delicious food. Jayda’s hobbies include solving puzzles, working out, and building with Legos, showcasing her love for challenges and creativity.
Jayda believes that the strengths that make a great bowler include having a strong drive and a desire to succeed. For her, the pursuit of victory and constant self-improvement are what fuel her as an athlete. One of the greatest challenges for athletes today, according to Jayda, is managing mental health. The pressure of balancing school, athletic performance, and social life can lead to burnout and disrupt an athlete’s well-being.
One of her most memorable moments in bowling was when she bowled her first 300 game and 700 series. This significant achievement stands out not only because of the milestone itself but also because her family was there to witness it. Looking ahead, Jayda’s career goals include landing her dream job and competing on the professional women’s bowling tour. Her dream job is to become a Radiation Oncologist or a Radiologist, combining her interest in health and medicine.
Jayda chose Prairie View A&M because she wanted to step out of her comfort zone and be part of a winning program. The university’s supportive environment and commitment to excellence in athletics have made it the perfect fit for her to pursue her passions.
