Carlos Jackson is in his fourth year as assistant track coach for Prairie View A&M University women track and field. Jackson brings to the coaching staff 13 years of coaching experience.
A native of Caldwell Texas, Jackson graduated in 1984 from Caldwell High School. In 1984, Jackson was one of the state's top hurdlers. From 1984 to 1986, Jackson competed for Blinn College in Brenham Texas under Coach Pat Henry. Henry is now head track and field coach at Texas A&M University. In 1986 Jackson was named to the NJCAA All-American Team. Jackson received his Associates of Arts from Blinn College.
Jackson went on to compete for Southwest Texas State University from 1986 to 1988, where he is on the 55-meter hurdles top five all-time list. He was also named to the All-Conference list. Jackson was coached by Rocky Light and Rick Jones. Light is now coaching for Texas Tech University.
In 1996, Jackson made a bid for the 1996 U.S.A Olympic team. In 1998 Jackson became a personal hurdle coach, producing several of Texas' top high school hurdlers. Jackson was the personal coach for Alandra Sherman (UT) who holds the state high school record in the 100m hurdles (13.25). Other state top hurdlers are Whitney Crayton (NYU), Sidney Davis (PVAMU), David Butler (PVAMU), Tiffany Perriot (Barton County College), and Jordan Heggie (SHSU).
In 2004, Jackson became a volunteer coach for the Prairie View A&M women's track team. He was in charge of the hurdles. In his first year of coaching, he led Ronda Tucker to an Indoor SWAC championship in the 60-meter hurdles and Outdoor SWAC runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles.
In 2005, Jackson received in B.S. in Health & Human Performance from Prairie View A&M University. In 2007 Jackson received his M.S. in Health & Physical Education from Prairie View A&M University.
In 2008, Jackson again coached Tucker to an Indoor SWAC championship in the 60m hurdles, and an Outdoor runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles. He also coached Alexis Tanner to the finals at the 2008 Outdoor SWAC championship. During that same year he coached Ashley McGee to a 2008 Outdoor SWAC championship High Jump runner-up finish.
In 2009, Jackson coached several athletes to a SWAC All-American berth. Ronda Tucker took 3rd place in the 100-meter hurdles and 3rd in the 400 hurdles. Corinna Brown placed 4th in the 400m hurdles. In 2010, Jackson played a major role in helping several Lady Panthers earn individual titles as the team finished second overall at the SWAC Championship. In 2011 and 2012 Jackson coached six different athletes to the SWAC All-American Team. Terracia Moody competed in the West Regional Track and Field Championship with a personal best time of 53.91 in the 400m. Sylvonna Thompson also competed in the West Regional Track and Field Championship with a personal best time of 60.24 in the 400m hurdles. Jackson also coached Myesha Dixon to a first place birth in the Heptathlon while breaking the record with 4,902 points.
