Daniella “Dani” Udegbunam brings a passion for growth, strong character and a team-first mentality to the Prairie View A&M volleyball program. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, and now representing Houston, Texas, Udegbunam was introduced to volleyball by a high school friend and has continued to develop her love for the game through the challenges and relationships that come with competing at a high level.
Udegbunam is motivated by the constant push to learn difficult skills and the relationships built on the court. Her favorite volleyball memory is her high school senior night, while her favorite pregame meal is a Cobb salad and Made Good granola balls. If given the choice between an ace and a game-winning kill, she would choose the game-winning kill.
Before matches, Udegbunam takes time for prayer and giving thanks. Her favorite shows include The Originals and The Legend of Korra. She also celebrates National Kitten Day on July 10—her birthday—as one of her favorite holidays.
Udegbunam chose Prairie View A&M because of the university's strong academic programs, traditions and history. She was also drawn to the volleyball program's family atmosphere and the team's commitment to working toward consistent goals together.
To Udegbunam, representing Prairie View A&M means displaying good sportsmanship and carrying the school's pride both on and off the court. As a student, she believes in respecting others while demonstrating the value she places on her education.
Udegbunam believes one of the greatest challenges facing athletes today is how they are perceived and the importance of maintaining a good heart and character through those pressures. Her hidden talent is having strong discernment, along with a few other unique abilities.
Outside of volleyball, Udegbunam enjoys spending time with her teammates and credits Terasita as the teammate who makes her laugh the most.
