Shane Youman-Osuoha enters his first season as pitching coach at Prairie View A&M University and his fourth overall season as a collegiate pitching coach. The New Iberia, Louisiana native brings a wealth of experience from a successful professional playing career and extensive coaching background at the collegiate and international levels.
Prior to joining the Panthers’ staff, Youman-Osuoha served as pitching coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (2022–2024) and Texas Southern University (2024–2025), where he developed pitching staffs known for their competitiveness and command.
A graduate of Louisiana State University (LSU), Youman-Osuoha was a standout pitcher for the Tigers, lettering three seasons and contributing as a top reliever to LSU’s 2000 NCAA National Championship team. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1997 MLB Amateur Draft out of New Iberia Senior High School, he chose to pursue his education and college career at LSU before later signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a 2001 draft pick.
Youman-Osuoha went on to spend over four seasons in the Pirates’ minor league system before making his Major League Baseball debut on September 10, 2006. He spent parts of two seasons in the majors with the Pirates before extending his professional career overseas, competing in both Taiwan and South Korea. He officially retired from playing in 2017, capping a remarkable international and professional career that spanned more than 15 years.
Following his retirement, Youman-Osuoha transitioned into coaching, applying his experience and leadership to develop pitchers at multiple levels of the game. Known for his technical expertise, calm presence, and emphasis on mental preparation, he continues to mentor student-athletes with the same dedication that defined his playing career.
Youman-Osuoha is married to Rosalyn and they have a daughter Noelle.
