Seven members of the Prairie View A&M Panther football team were selected to the 2010 All-SWAC Football Team. Three Panthers earned first team honors while four were named to the second team.
One of the anchors on the offensive line at guard, Dekle is a three-time All-SWAC honoree as several members on the offensive unit set career highs behind the Miami, Fla. native's protection. Spears closed out his stellar career as a Panther with a career-best season that featured 70 tackles, four sacks, nine tackles for loss and three blocked punts. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Ellis emerged as one of the nation's best at his position after leading the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) ranks with eight interceptions and 22 passes defended.
A native of Miami, Fla., Adingupu led the team in tackles with 84, tallied 3.5 tackles for loss, broke up eight passes and forced three fumbles. Babers concluded his senior campaign with 918 rushing yards, 23 receptions, 99.1 all-purpose yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. The Houston native also etched his name into the record books as he finished second all-time on the Prairie View A&M rushing charts with 3,404 yards and 35 touchdowns. Sencherey returns to the All-SWAC team for the second straight year as the Lake Jackson, Texas native totaled 75 tackles at the middle linebacker spot while Stephens closed out his career with a bang after amassing a career-high 859 receiving yards on 63 receptions. The Houston native also scored nine touchdowns and averaged 78.1 yards per game.
Despite a slow start, the Panthers finished the 2010 season strong as they won six of their final seven games en route to a 7-4 overall mark. Several Panthers will attempt to further their playing careers on the professional level as seven members will participate in the annual Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl on Dec. 18 in Atlanta, Ga. Representing Prairie View at the Georgia Dome next weekend are Chris Adingupu, Donald Babers, K.J. Black, James Blanton, Brady Faggard, Quinton Spears and Shaun Stephens.
